‘Star Wars’ and ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’ have more in common than you’d think

Is groove just another term for force? And is Kylo Ren just a darker, more sexualised version of the bratty cartoon character Kuzco from the 2000 Disney masterpiece The Emperor’s New Groove?

The artist @bb_kate_art took to twitter to make the case for why the next instalment of the Star Wars franchise should look to Disney’s classic Inca drama for inspiration. There are, as @bb_kate_art points out, already many parallels between the two:

Just look how similar Pacha and Rey look in these shots:

Most obvious are the similarities between villain Kylo Ren, and the emperor-turned-llama Kuzco. Both are entitled, vain bad boys with luscious, dark hair and a soft core. And if Kylo Ren was a cartoon character, couldn’t he also be convincingly voiced by actor David Spade?

These side-by-side shots of Kylo and Kuzco deserve an award.

The resemblance between Hux and Yzma is frankly uncanny.

Pinging J. J. Abrams for his thoughts.
